Are you a young budding ice hockey player looking to reach the big time? Have you considered developing your skills with the Redline Ice Hockey Academy based at ICE Sheffield?
The academy, formed recently, offers youngsters aged 16 – 18 the unique chance to gain additional ice time and development with former Sheffield Steelers Assistant Coach Neil Abel, whilst completing a BTEC level 3 qualification. The academy ran in conjunction with PTC Education allows youngsters the chance to harness their skills and abilities and then head back to their clubs to put into practice what they have learnt.
Director of Education at PTC Group Adam Nixon said “This really is a very unique alternative to college, it is without doubt the most elite academy we have such are the facilities and partners we work with on this project. Learners gain huge experience from the additional time on the ice with Neil, we also understand how hard it is to gain time on ice these days, but let’s not forget the learners are also gaining a very reputable qualification, which can ultimately lead onto university.”
The Redline learners are provided with a range of incentives such as training and classroom clothing, learning device to assist with studies, free gym membership at the EIS Sheffield, which is used by athletics stars like Jessica Ennis. On top of this they also get to learn in an onsite classroom at ICE Sheffield supported by onsite educators and tutorial assistants.
To make the academy accessible to all learners from across the UK the Redline Academy also offers hosted family packages through their partner B & E, who place learners with fully vetted families to stay in Sheffield to complete the study programme over the two years.
Head Coach Neil Abel said “I was very happy to be offered the opportunity to develop young ice hockey players across the country on the Redline programme. It is an exciting project that is made for the benefit of Ice Hockey in general. I look forward to passing on my experience and knowledge to the learners next year. A current learner is now playing Ice Hockey professionally directly because of this programme, so it doesn’t get any better than that as an incentive to join us.”Course fees do apply and places are still available for the course starting in September 2015, if you would like further information about the Redline Ice Hockey Academy please contact PTC Education on T: 01709 913600 or E: firstname.lastname@example.org.
